WhatsApp porn scam is back: Answering THIS unknown video call on FB Messenger could be disturbing.

WhatsApp: If they don’t get the money they desire, these people also threaten to upload screenshots on the internet and make them go viral.

WhatsApp has been grabbing headlines recently for its privacy policy, however, apart from this, the Facebook-owned platform has also become a sanctum for cybercriminals as many users have reported that they are receiving video calls on WhatsApp from unknown numbers and after the user receives the call, the screen shows a video of a nude girl, and then the call gets disconnected.

Not only this, after the phone is disconnected, these cybercriminals send screenshots of the video and ask for money in return.

If a report from Medium is to be believed, if a user deletes the phone number, still they are not spared from this con. This case purely is of online extortion or can also be termed as cyber sextortion. If they don’t get the money they desire, these people also threaten to upload the screenshots on the internet and make them viral.

According to a report these scammers, a lot of times, use their smooth language skills to trap the “customers” so that they can do sex chat on a video call.

Besides that, they ask for a lumpsum amount from the victim which puts them in financial distress.

In order to avoid these scammers, it is important to not befriend any unknown person via WhatsApp or taking any kind of calls from unknown numbers. Even if you take a video call, it is advisable to cover your face with a cloth or if you are exposed, just report the entire incident to the police so that they can help.

People on other platforms like Facebook Messenger, Telegram, or Signal should also practice the same and must not receive any unknown numbers or their requests.

The gang that is said to be targeting only men creates multiple fake accounts and enlists females to set the trap by befriending the men through Facebook chats.

Eventually, the woman video calls the man and starts performing obscene acts, while encouraging him to do the same. In most cases, the man follows suit and the fraudsters record the screen. What follows is a series of messages from the woman threatening to share the video unless the victim sends money.

At times, scamsters take screenshots of the face from the video call and superimpose it on someone else’s body to make it appear as a sex chat. Then, with naked video recordings as evidence, the gang blackmails the victim, threatening to upload their photos on social media and send them to their friends and relatives.

“For men only. Be careful. Do not make half-naked video calls on WhatsApp with people you met on Facebook. They record that video call and threaten you, blackmail you, and demand money.

Nowadays, many people are receiving video calls from unknown numbers. As soon as the receiver takes the call, a video of a nude girl is played on the screen. After some time, the call is abruptly disconnected. Shortly afterwards, the scamsters send Whatsapp text with screen recording of the video call from the same unknown number.

If someone has already blocked the number before receiving the Whatsapp text, the scamsters send the screen recording of the video call on Whatsapp via another unknown number. Then, they threaten the victims that they have contact numbers of their relatives & friends and they will send the screen recording of the victim’s video call with a nude girl to their relatives & friends. They also threaten that they will upload the screen recording on various platforms on the internet & make it viral. The scamsters use such threats and blackmail to extort money. They give their UPI IDs or bank details to extort money. It is also called “Cyber Sextortion”.

Such horrible attacks are rampant these days and whatsapp is an easy platform for such scamsters. Innocent people are framed, their careers & family relations are threatened to be destroyed and their hard earned money is looted.

How can we avoid such scamsters?

Never befriend any unknown person via WhatsApp. Never receive a video call on Whatsapp with an unknown number. If you accept the call, immediately cover the front camera of your phone with your hand so that your face is not captured. Even if your face is captured and you are trapped, inform the police without hesitation.

It should also be kept in mind that this is not necessarily limited to Whatsapp. You can receive similar calls on any messenger like Telegram, Skype, etc.

Sometimes, people receive sex chat requests on Facebook messenger and the scamsters ask people’s Whatsapp numbers to continue the sex chat.

You should be careful on Facebook too. Fake accounts are created on Facebook to trap people & do cyber sextortion. Never accept friend or messenger requests from unknown people. Keep your Facebook ID locked and block shady accounts to safeguard yourself.
